Racks
Each warehouse has its own set of requirements. The right racking system must be able to increase your space utilization without hampering your operations, especially the picking process. To know which racking system(s) is appropriate for your warehouse, there are many factors to consider, including your budget, floor and storage utilization, future growth plans, and inventory management. Let the experienced team at Summit Handling help you choose the best storage medium to meet your needs.
Pallet
- Direct access: Every pallet is accessible from the working aisle.
- Easy to install: The system offers quick assembly with low maintenance costs.
- Versatile: Pallet racking adapts to facility height and accommodates various loads, from pallets and containers to boxes, drums, and reels.
- Configurable and scalable: Adjustable storage levels allow easy reconfiguration, with the option to expand by adding bays or beam levels.
- Ideal for picking: Operators can pick items at floor level or, using order pickers, at higher locations, too.
Flow
- Maximum utilisation of surface area: pallet flow racking is a high-density storage solution that significantly increases a warehouse’s capacity.
- Flawless product turnover: its compatibility with the FIFO method fosters excellent inventory control.
- Time savings: having all SKUs available in a single working aisle makes it easy to locate any product, reducing forklift maneuvering time and speeding up pallet removal.
- Separation of loading and unloading: pallet storage and retrieval are performed from separate aisles. This eliminates interference and enables forklifts to work without interruptions.
- Multiple SKUs: although each channel houses a single SKU, these can vary between the different channels.
- Better energy consumption: implementation of this system in facilities run at low temperatures reduces energy consumption since the volume to be cooled is smaller.
Push Back
- Space savings: doing away with intermediate aisles makes better use of the available surface area and increases storage capacity.
- Time gained: forklifts do not enter the racking, and operations are carried out from a single aisle. This significantly streamlines loading and unloading.
- Multiple SKUs: each storage channel can house a different SKU, making it possible to diversify the products stored.
- Low-to-high temperatures: the carts in the racking are prepared to work at temperatures ranging from -30 °C to 40 °C.
- Operational safety: the locking devices, stops, pallet centralisers, and other elements ensure safe and easy storage and retrieval manoeuvres.
- Low maintenance: the system requires very little maintenance, while its components ensure high strength and durability.
Cantilever
- Wide variety of loads: the system’s different components and accessories make it easily adaptable to a broad range of long and bulky loads of various weights and dimensions.
- Direct access and excellent visibility: the racks enable immediate visual identification of stored goods as well as direct access to them.
- Easy assembly: the system is made up of modular elements for simple assembly. Furthermore, it can be adapted to future needs by adding modules.
- Space optimization: the racks can be installed on mobile bases to configure a mobile cantilever racking system. This setup compacts the racking units while maintaining direct access to each product.
- Suitable for outdoor use: several roofing options are available to protect both the goods and the structure from adverse weather conditions in outdoor facilities.
- Safety: the system incorporates elements such as vertical bracing and stops, giving the installation great stability and resistance.
Drive-in
- Maximizes space: It makes the most of both floor space and height, increasing storage capacity compared to standard pallet racks.
- Simple and cost-effective: It is the simplest high-density storage system and requires the least investment.
- Customizable: The depth and height can be adjusted to fit each customer’s needs and the type of goods being stored.
- One or two aisles: It can be set up with one aisle (LIFO: last in, first out) or two aisles (FIFO: first in, first out).
- Forklift-friendly: Interlake Mecalux drive-in racks include accessories that guide forklift movements and help position pallets correctly.
- Energy-efficient: A smaller footprint reduces the area that needs cooling in cold storage and freezer warehouses.
- Simplified inventory management: Each lane holds one type of product (SKU), making it easy to track stock.
- Fits various pallets: This system works with pallets of different sizes and weights.
